ANGULUS was founded in 1904 by Willy Madsen’s father, who had a cobblers shop on Nørrebrogade in Copenhagen. Willy was a teacher and disagreed with the pointed shoes that many children wore at that time. He thought they were both unhealthy for growing feet and hindered natural movement. In 1928, Willy astounded the Danish footwear industry with his new foot-formed shoes, developed in collaboration with doctors and physiotherapists.

At first the shoes received a cool reception but eventually interest and also their reputation grew. Before long, ANGULUS was the talk of the town, due not least to the fact that Willy had married Else Højgaard, one of the most popular ballerinas of the time. The couple even performed publicly, with Else wearing ANGULUS ladies shoes, which really paved the way for the brand.

Eventually, in 1949, Willy employed a leather buyer by the name of Roland Dawe. In the years that followed, he travelled all over Europe in search of quality leather. Roland had an eye for quality and also for the handsome foreign shoes he saw. The visionary buyer ensured that ANGULUS got the franchise to sell handmade German as well as elegant Italian shoes in Denmark. So by 1960, when the Danish government opened up for the import of foreign shoes, ANGULUS was one of the few Danish footwear manufacturers ready for the competition. The Italian franchises were a particular inspiration in the development of the ANGULUS collections.

ANGULUS' 110 th. anniversary i 2014

This year will see the 110th anniversary of the founding of ANGULUS shoes. Today, Roland Dawe’s son, Christian is behind the development of the company. The shoes are designed in Denmark and manufactured in Portugal, where 130 dedicated shoemakers run the factory. Every season, they send beautiful shoes out into the world and onto the shelves of the best shops. Here, the quality-conscious customer can venture out into the world in ANGULUS shoes, that are not only beautiful to look at but alsooffer unparalleled comfort whether walking or standing still.

ANGULUS today is a visionary brand, with its flagship store on Sværtegade 10 in the heart of Copenhagen. Here you can find an exclusive selection of ladies shoes and a carefully selected but rapidly changing range of children’s shoes. The same shoes are not always to be found both in the shop and online, so it’s worth visiting both.

Their perfect fit, quality and design ensured ANGULUS the prestigious British “Junior Magazine Deign Award” in 2012, 2013 and again in 2014, as well as the Danish “Børn i Byen” award for the best Danish children’s shoe. Attention to craftsmanship and the guiding principle that children’s toes should be able tomove freely in their shoes, drive the company onwards. New collections await and the story of ANGULUS continues.
